Make+Take: DIY Suminagashi Marbling
At Pyramid Atlantic Art Center’s Make+Take series, this hands‑on workshop introduces the ancient art of Suminagashi paper marbling. Participants learn the methods and materials needed to create floating ink patterns on water, then transfer them onto paper, producing unique, swirling designs. The technique, which originated in Japan over a thousand years ago, involves gently applying colored inks to a water surface, manipulating them into organic patterns, and laying paper on top to capture the image. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided so that each attendee leaves with several marbled sheets.
