Bishop Mariann Budde - I can Learn to be Brave - at Conn Ave
Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, the Episcopal Bishop of Washington and spiritual leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, D.C., and the Washington National Cathedral, visits Politics and Prose’s Connecticut Avenue location to present her new picture book, *I Can Learn to Be Brave*. Inspired by her adult work *How We Learn to Be Brave*, this children’s book follows a little girl who is afraid to try new things—climbing a hill, using a rope swing, finding a sunset—and learns from another brave girl that small, decisive moments are the foundation of courage. The story encourages even the youngest readers to recognize that no voice is too quiet and no message too small to make a difference. The event features a reading and discussion, and the book is illustrated by *New York Times* bestselling artist Holly Hatam. About the Author: Mariann Edgar Budde has been the bishop and spiritual leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington and Washington National Cathedral since 2011. Before that she served as a parish priest in Minneapolis for eighteen years. She holds a master’s in divinity and a doctor of ministry from Virginia Theological Seminary and has appeared on *PBS NewsHour*, *Meet the Press*, *Good Morning America*, and the *Today* show.
