A SPARK OF CONSCIOUSNESS: Healing the soul
A SPARK OF CONSCIOUSNESS: Healing the Soul is Laurence Elle Groux’s first solo exhibition. Presented by Transformer in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland in the United States, the exhibition brings together stoneware ceramic sculptures and oil pastel etchings that explore emotional and spiritual experiences through tangible forms.
Groux’s work draws on ancient hieroglyphs, sacred symbols, mythology, Renaissance art, Modernism, and Outsider Art. The exhibition gives physical shape to concepts including introspection, love, hate, wisdom, awakening, hope, and fear, inviting visitors to reflect on experiences that can be difficult to express in words.

Schedule: A Visionary Leaders Circle Exhibition Preview will take place Friday, October 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Community Open House Reception will take place Saturday, October 10, from noon to 6 p.m.
Exhibition themes: The presentation examines healing, transformation, emotional states, spirituality, presence, and the search for meaning. Works address ideas such as love, hate, solace, innocence, hope, fear, and awakening.
Background: Groux began her Healing Circles oil pastel etchings in 2018, following a serious physical injury that prevented her from moving her neck or creating art for nearly a year. The small drawings became part of her physical and creative recovery. In 2020, her sculpture Becoming led to the related works Hope and Fear and eventually to her continuing Abstract Nouns series, which seeks to give form to intangible experiences.
Artist background: Groux is a self-taught, introspective artist who grew up in a small Swiss village and moved to the United States in 1996. She has lived and worked in New York City ever since. Her work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Switzerland, and Philadelphia and is held in collections in the United States, Switzerland, Canada, and Mexico. Her work has also been selected for group exhibitions by curatorial staff associated with the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
Personal context: After being diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in 2022, Groux continued exploring how pain, uncertainty, stillness, and presence could inform both artistic and spiritual transformation. The exhibition reflects her belief that creativity can support healing and offer reflection and hope to others.
