The George Mason University Jazz Ensemble kicks off its 2026–2027 season with a fall concert that honors the legacy of h.con.res. 57, the landmark 1987 Congressional Resolution declaring jazz "a rare and valuable national American treasure." In tribute to this declaration—which recognized jazz as America's indigenous art form and a vital cultural force—the ensemble presents an evening of straight-ahead jazz that celebrates the tradition while looking forward. The program also pays homage to saxophonist Sonny Rollins, honoring his fearless creativity and lifelong pursuit of artistic excellence. Through the music of the great jazz masters, the concert embodies freedom, collaboration, and innovation.
