Hannah Cole

Thu, Oct 1, 2026at 8:00 PM
33 Pearl Street Southwest, Washington, DC
Free
Featuring: Hannah Cole, maggie FM

Hannah Cole brings her shoegaze- and alternative-rock-influenced songwriting to Pearl Street, performing with maggie FM. Her debut album, *Switchbacks*, draws on infectious pop melodies and 1990s nostalgia while reflecting on ambition, uncertainty, the pressures of the music industry, and the importance of preserving joy and contentment.

Originally from Covington, Louisiana, Cole moved to Nashville in 2019 to study music business and songwriting. Her sound combines heavier rock textures with carefully crafted songwriting, in a style connected to artists such as Bully and Soccer Mommy. Cole recorded *Switchbacks* with longtime collaborator and partner Josef Kuhn in their home studio between 2024 and 2025, playing most of the instruments herself. Mixer Sonny DiPerri helped shape the album’s expansive, cathartic sound, which was designed with the live show in mind.

The album’s ten songs examine different sides of the pursuit of success. “MMA” addresses the music industry’s darker elements, “Give” considers the exhausting pursuit of recognition, “Mechanical Bull” confronts being dismissed as merely a partner rather than an equal, and “Pitcher” explores perfectionism. “100 Bucks” turns toward self-acceptance, while “Every New Day” reflects on mortality, changing priorities, and the fleeting nature of success. Cole’s perspective was also shaped by the loss of her aunt and a personal health scare in 2025, experiences that led her to focus more closely on being present and finding satisfaction in the act of making music.
