Make+Take: Lotus Fold Book Structure
Make+Take: Lotus Fold Book Structure is a hands-on book arts workshop based on the origami lotus form, also known as the snake, dragon, or star accordion. Participants will learn to construct a folded-paper book with a hard cover, explore variations in its length and size, and then expand the technique by experimenting with a seasonal garland. The workshop welcomes beginners and experienced makers alike, with no prior experience required.
The instructor, Amaal Younes, is a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and craft-based practitioner from Cairo who is now based in Washington, DC. Her practice centers on materials, storytelling, and the personal and cultural meaning of handmade objects. She co-founded Grain Studio in 2017, and her current project, *Hands of a Wanderer*, considers migration, belonging, and slow making through functional objects and narrative craft.
