Mysterious Traveler • The Music of Weather Report is a seated live tribute to Weather Report, the influential jazz-fusion quintet formed by former members of Miles Davis’s groundbreaking bands. The performance focuses on the innovative compositions of Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter and the band’s distinctive blend of jazz, rock, funk, Latin music, global rhythms, and synthesizer-driven textures.
Weather Report’s 15-year career ran from 1970 to 1985, during which the group became known for adventurous arrangements, strong melodic hooks, and constantly evolving lineups of exceptional instrumentalists. The program also celebrates the band’s celebrated 1977 album *Heavy Weather*, which includes “Birdland” and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011, as well as the heightened energy of Weather Report’s live performances after bassist Jaco Pastorius joined.
