Get Out the Vote - Youth in Government / Furniture Music / We All Witness
Get Out the Vote is a politically engaged concert encouraging audience members to organize, support voting access, and participate in the midterm elections. The program brings together Washington-area space-rock duo Youth in Government, the experimental Furniture Music collaboration, and We All Witness, an avant-garde ensemble combining jazz, horror-inspired music, acoustic instruments, and electronics.
Youth in Government’s expansive sound draws on psychedelic rock, shoegaze, and post-rock, pairing shimmering guitars, immersive textures, and driving rhythms. Furniture Music creates atmospheric soundscapes with guitar, effects, prepared vinyl, and turntables, while We All Witness explores the tension between acoustic and electronic forces through an evolving instrumental ensemble.

Lineup: Youth in Government, Furniture Music, and We All Witness
Youth in Government: Chris Mathews-Larsen on guitar and vocals and Trae Tomko on drums, vocals, and sampler form the duo. They are joined live by David Barker on lead guitar and Jamie Darken on bass. Mathews-Larsen and Tomko wrote, performed, and co-produced the group’s Fall 2026 EP, *Moondials*, as well as most of its debut album, *Silhouettes*. Their influences include Radiohead, Slowdive, the Beatles, the Cure, and the 4AD catalog.
Furniture Music: Jeff Barsky of Insect Factory and JS Adams of THAT CLOUD collaborate on a project loosely inspired by Erik Satie’s 1917 concept of background music. Their guitar, effects, prepared-vinyl, and turntable work produces mysterious, ghostly, and surreal musique d’ameublement.
We All Witness: The collective formed through a meeting at the 2026 Washington Women in Jazz Festival. Its members are Amy K. Bormet on piano and keyboards, Sarah Marie Hughes on alto saxophone, flute, and woodwinds, Christine Paluch on synthesizers, Keith Butler Jr. on drums and percussion, and Thomas Stanley on electronics. The project focuses on combining horror music and jazz, with a format that can expand to include additional musicians.
Event focus: The concert calls attention to threats involving healthcare, gender and sexual identity, housing, education, economic security, civil rights, privacy, disability rights, voting, and environmental protection, and urges attendees to encourage friends and family to vote.
