Fernando Eimbcke’s bittersweet drama Flies (Moscas) follows Olga, a solitary retiree living in a busy corner of Mexico City. Needing money for a routine medical procedure, she reluctantly advertises her spare room. Her carefully ordered life is upended when an exhausted father arrives with his nine-year-old son, Cristian. Through gentle humor, grief, and an unexpected streak of magical realism connected to a cosmic arcade game, the film explores the fragile bonds that can form between strangers.

Teresita Sánchez brings a warm, grounded presence to the role of Olga, while nine-year-old Bastian Escobar makes his screen debut as Cristian. The film is a new work from Mexican filmmaker Fernando Eimbcke, whose earlier feature *Duck Season* also used black-and-white imagery and a dry, tender comic sensibility. *Flies* was an official selection at the 2026 Berlin and Toronto film festivals.
