Hans Tammen / Marcus Cummins Duo PLUS Jamal Moore
Hans Tammen, Marcus Cummins, and Jamal Moore come together for an evening of free improvisation built around shifting textures, rhythms, frequencies, and spontaneous interaction. Tammen’s guitar and electronics meet Cummins’s soprano saxophone, with Moore opening on reeds, percussion, and electronics.
Tammen works with sound as a constantly changing field of rhythms, intensities, timbres, and dynamics. His practice includes guitar, synthesizers, and electronics, as well as writing for and conducting large ensembles such as the Dark Circuits Orchestra and the 18-piece Third Eye Orchestra. He teaches at the School of Visual Arts, Hunter College, and NYU, and studied at the University of Kassel with support from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
British saxophonist Marcus Cummins has been active in the UK free-improvised music community since the early 1990s. He has performed as a soloist and in duos and larger ensembles, including Trevor Watts’ Celebration Band, and has appeared at venues and festivals ranging from Ronnie Scott’s in London to Edgefest in Ann Arbor. His musical background includes jazz and Indian music, and he has studied with musicians including Bobby Wellins, Evan Parker, Paul Dunmall, and Dharambir Singh. Now based in New York City, he performs regularly with Arki Sound and Nivedita Shivrag, while maintaining collaborations in Canada and Europe.
Baltimore native Jamal R. Moore is a multi-instrumentalist, composer-performer, and educator. He holds degrees from Berklee College of Music and the California Institute of the Arts and has been affiliated with the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, Black Praxis, Konjur Collective, and the Ancestral Duo with Luke Stewart.
