Death Cafe
Death Cafe is a free, facilitated conversation gathering at Rhizome DC where participants enjoy coffee, tea, and desserts together while talking openly about death and dying. The stated purpose is to increase awareness of death and help people make the most of their finite lives, and the conversation is shaped by whatever is on attendees’ minds about the topic. It is intentionally not a therapy, grief support, or counseling session, but rather a relaxed, facilitated discussion held in an open manner. The event is limited to 20 people so that everyone has a better chance to speak and the conversation can be guided effectively.
The session is led by facilitators Margaret Branch and Monica Lynch, who can be contacted in advance with any questions. Attendance is free, though a small donation to support the space is encouraged. Because of the limited capacity, an RSVP is recommended for those planning to attend.
