Black Benataur vs. The Cistem
“Black Benataur vs. The Cistem” is an original solo theatrical performance presented by Amazing Theatre Company and performed by Beatrice Lillian Thomas, also known as Black Benatar. Through drag, comedy, music, storytelling, and courtroom satire, the work examines gaps in healthcare affecting Black women, including medical bias, reproductive loss, fibroids, ovarian cysts, delayed diagnoses, and the struggle to have pain taken seriously.
In the play, organs testify, doctors take the stand, and the healthcare system is placed on trial. Characters such as Attorney Fallopia and Judge Uterus lead the audience—cast as the jury—through one woman’s personal journey and her growing need to advocate for herself. The production is bold, surreal, humorous, and direct, asking who gets believed when a patient’s experience is minimized.
