Little Stranger

815 V St. NW, Washington, DC
Price not available
Featuring: Little Stranger, Kevin Shields, John Shields

Little Stranger brings its high-energy “organized chaos” to 9:30 Club. The Philadelphia-born, Charleston-based duo of best friends Kevin and John Shields combines melodic hip-hop, pop, reggae, rock, and soulful grooves, with John’s singer-songwriter vocals and Kevin’s forceful delivery at the center of the sound. Their live shows emphasize self-expression, acceptance, and the communal “Strangerverse” atmosphere the band has built through sold-out performances and festival appearances.

The performance supports the duo’s album *Sat Around Trippin*, a largely self-produced collection created between the group’s Charleston home studio and a remote cabin in North Carolina. The record moves through tropical hip-hop, reggae, gospel-inspired rap and soul, punk-influenced rock, and reflective material addressing identity, personal growth, loneliness, and mental health. The bill also features Cleveland six-piece Tropidelic, Brooklyn MC and producer Jarv, and Damn Skippy.

About Little Stranger: Kevin and John Shields have developed a genre-blurring style shaped by hip-hop, pop, reggae, and rock, with comparisons ranging from Remi Wolf, Still Woozy, and Marc Rebillet to Gorillaz, N.E.R.D., and early-2000s Timbaland. They have performed at festivals including Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, Hangout Fest, BottleRock, and Levitate Music & Arts Festival.

Album: The performance features music from *Sat Around Trippin*, including the tropical, marimba-colored “Kama Sumatra,” the playful hip-hop/reggae track “Fly Guy,” the gospel-influenced “God at a Festival” with Andy Frasco, and the energetic rock song “Nobody Like Me.” The album follows the band’s earlier release *Trip Around Saturn*, which included collaborations with Del the Funky Homosapien and The Elovaters.

Supporting act: Tropidelic is a six-piece Cleveland band known for its independent, resilient approach and emotionally direct songwriting. The group has released tens of millions of streams, organized the Sunny Days and Everwild Music festivals, performed at Red Rocks, and toured with acts including Dirty Heads, Lupe Fiasco, 311, and Michael Franti.

Supporting act: Jarv is a Brooklyn-based MC and producer who began making music in 2009 and released *Jarvage Vol. 1* in 2016. His catalog includes four full-length projects rooted in a modern take on boom-bap, and he has toured with RA the Rugged Man, Masta Ace, Little Stranger, Mr. Lif, Akrobatik, Sadat X, Spose, and others.
