Classical Arts Society of Washington: Furiant and Flamenco

The Classical Arts Society of Washington opens its third season with a program exploring the shared vitality of Spanish and Bohemian folk traditions. Works by Joaquín Turina and Antonín Dvořák bring flamenco-inflected Andalusian melodies, French-impressionist color, Czech lyricism, and the energetic furiant dance into classical piano-trio forms.

The program begins with Turina’s three-part *Circulo*, which traces the changing atmosphere of dawn, midday, and dusk, followed by his colorful *Trio No. 2*. After intermission, Dvořák’s six-movement *Dumky Trio* alternates between wistful, tranquil passages and lively folk-dance episodes, ending with a virtuosic surge of passion.

When: Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Schedule: A reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres begins at 6:30 PM. The concert starts at 7:15 PM, and the event ends at 9:30 PM.

Program: Turina’s *Circulo*, Op. 91, including “Amanecer” (Dawn), “Mediodía” (Midday), and “Crepúsculo” (Dusk); Turina’s *Trio No. 2*, Op. 76; and Dvořák’s *Dumky* Trio, Op. 90.

Program Details: *Circulo* runs approximately 10–11 minutes, *Trio No. 2* approximately 14–16 minutes, and the *Dumky* Trio approximately 30–33 minutes. The program includes an intermission.

Instrumentation: The concert features piano, violin, and cello works.

Tickets: Members pay $60 when using the RSVP option, and non-members pay $65 through the ticket purchase option. Member reservations charge $60 per person to the member’s account and may be canceled without penalty until the day before the event.

Admission: Open to the public.

Included: Ticket admission includes hors d’oeuvres and beverages from an open wine and beer bar.
