Jeremy Lyons plays Lewis Krauthamer / Tyrone Page plays James Young / Peter Kibbe
This Off the Beaten Path Music Series program brings together three exploratory performances. Classical guitarist Jeremy Lyons performs Lewis Krauthamer’s expansive, expressionist work *Two Virginian Ballads on Themes of Human Sedulity*, while saxophonist Tyrone Page presents selections from James Young’s *True Fluorescent Skeleton*. Cellist Peter Kibbe performs works for amplified cello and looping pedal that extend a solo instrument into layered, simultaneous iterations.
Krauthamer’s 2016–17 composition is a roughly 30-minute work by a microtonal sixth-tone composer and includes live projected animation developed by Krauthamer without artificial-intelligence assistance. Young’s *True Fluorescent Skeleton* investigates memory, machinery, rust, ghosts, cybernetics, and neon, pushing the tenor saxophone toward the limits of breath, endurance, and extended technique. Its tracks circle a shared musical theme, treating each piece as a possible development or abandoned path toward a central melody. The cello set includes compositions by Tom Johnson, Judah Adashi, Donald Erb, and John Cage.
