Atima Omara, a nationally recognized Democratic strategist and media contributor, visits Politics and Prose at The Wharf for a discussion of her new book *The Instigators: How Black Women Have Been Essential to American Democracy (And What We Can Learn from Them)*. In the book, Omara argues that Black women between the ages of 18 and 45 are uniquely equipped to save American democracy, having been forced to develop strategic resilience in the face of intersecting racism and sexism. Drawing on her two decades in Democratic politics—as a party leader, organizer, former candidate, gubernatorial aide, and campaign staffer—Omara blends political guide, historical exploration, and memoir to show how Black women have responded to failed strategies in previous elections and to offer actionable recommendations for organizers, donors, candidates, and everyday people. She will be joined in conversation by Kimberly Atkins-Stohr, a senior opinion writer and columnist, MSNBC political analyst, frequent panelist on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” and co-host of the #SistersInLaw podcast.
