Studio Saturday with interdisciplinary fiber artist Aliana Grace Bailey is a hands-on workshop connecting Bailey’s fabric-based practice with Sam Gilliam’s use of fabric and canvas. The September session is inspired by *Broad Cape* and forms part of the Art-Play-Practice program at Phillips@THEARC.

Each Studio Saturday is a self-contained experience, so participants may attend individual sessions rather than the entire fall series. The workshop welcomes artists of all experience levels, and all materials are provided. The program also includes an Art-Play-Practice Open Play period for continued exploration.

Showtimes: The artist-led workshop runs from 1–2 pm, followed by Art-Play-Practice Open Play from 2–3 pm. The full program is scheduled for 1–3 pm.

Artist: Aliana Grace Bailey

About the artist: Bailey is a Washington, DC–native interdisciplinary fiber artist, designer, and care worker based between Washington, DC, and Baltimore. Her large-scale weavings, collages, and installations explore ancestral healing, memory, collective care, radical self-love, wellness, and healing. Her work appears in *Tomorrow the Sun Will Rise: The Phillips Collection Juried Exhibition*.

Background: Bailey earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Social Work and Visual Arts Media Design from North Carolina A&T State University. She became a socially engaged teaching artist in 2017 after a fellowship with The Sanctuaries, and in 2020 earned an MFA in Community Arts and a Certificate in College Teaching of Art from MICA. She is a 2026 Center for Craft Teaching Artist Cohort grantee and a 2025 Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize finalist. Her experience includes residencies in Ghana, the Mid-Atlantic, MASS MoCA, and the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, as well as an apprenticeship at The Fabric Workshop and Museum.

Ages and experience: All levels are welcome. No age restriction is stated.

Materials: All materials are provided.

Series schedule: The related Studio Saturday workshops are also scheduled for October 10 and November 7, 2026, each from 1–3 pm. Each session is designed to stand alone.
