Skin of Discomfort

The Skin of Discomfort is an exhibition of monumental textile patchworks by Chilean artist Paola Podestá of Valparaíso. Using quilt-making as both an aesthetic practice and a metaphor for collective struggle, Podestá brings together individual fabric fragments to explore the interconnectedness of feminism, environmental justice, fracking, natural-resource depletion, immigration, mental health, human rights, sustainability, and social justice. The installation invites reflection on how collective action might contribute to a more equitable future.

The exhibition is presented by Dupont Underground and is shown concurrently with Veiled Ladies. Visitors can also attend one-hour art-led talks with Podestá on selected dates during the exhibition.

When: Friday, September 4, 2026, through Sunday, October 4, 2026

Showtimes: Regular gallery hours are Fridays from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM and Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Artist Talks: One-hour art-led talks with Paola Podestá are scheduled for September 25, 26, and 27 and October 1 and 2 at 5:00 PM, plus October 3 at 2:00 PM. Advance ticket reservations are required at least 24 hours before a talk.

Tickets: $5 general admission. One ticket provides entry to both The Skin of Discomfort and Veiled Ladies. Admission is free during First Friday and Art All Night.
