Organ Recital: Michael Hey

Michael T. C. Hey performs a solo organ recital at Washington National Cathedral. The program is open to everyone, with the option to attend in person in the Nave or watch a livestream through the Cathedral’s website or YouTube channel.

Hey is Director of Music and Organist at Manhattan’s Marble Collegiate Church. He previously served as Associate Director of Music and Organist at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, including during Pope Francis’s only visit to the United States, and was formerly Assistant Organist at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. A prizewinner at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music’s First International Organ Competition and a Juilliard-trained musician, he performs as a soloist and collaborator with orchestras and ensembles in the United States and abroad.

About the organist: Hey has been described by The Straits Times as “scintillating” and “tremendously virtuosic,” and by The Tracker as “fabulously talented.” During the 2026–27 season, he is scheduled to give solo recitals at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Washington National Cathedral, as well as perform as organ soloist in the premiere of a new double concerto for organ and piano at Alice Tully Hall. He recently gave the closing recital at the Organ Historical Society’s 2025 National Convention.

Career background: Hey served at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral from 2015 to 2023 and was appointed Director of Music and Organist at Marble Collegiate Church in 2023. He studied organ performance with Paul Jacobs through The Juilliard School’s accelerated five-year program, earning both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. A Milwaukee native, he was named one of The Diapason’s “Top 20 Under 30” organists and released the solo recording *Michael T. C. Hey Plays the Great Organ of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York* on JAV Recordings.
