Young Fresh Fellows w/ Dot Dash • S0LD 0UT •
Young Fresh Fellows perform at Hank Dietle’s Tavern with Washington, D.C. power trio Dot Dash. The Fellows’ music is presented as spontaneous, collaborative, and forward-looking rather than nostalgic, rooted in the creative chemistry of a band that has been active for more than four decades.
The event centers on the Young Fresh Fellows’ album *Loft*, which began during the group’s 40th-anniversary tour. With John Perrin of NRBQ on drums alongside Scott McCaughey, Jim Sangster, and Kurt Bloch, the band recorded the album in Wilco’s Loft studio during an unplanned Chicago session. Working without their own equipment or a fixed plan, they completed the record in roughly eight hours, with many songs taking shape in one or two performances. The resulting material ranges from garage-rock urgency and piano ballads to jazz-inflected passages and personal songwriting. Expanded arrangements and guest appearances from Neko Case, Peter Buck, and members of Wilco and The Decemberists have given the project a broader, more cinematic dimension.
Dot Dash opens with compact, hook-driven songs that combine jangly guitar pop, vocal harmonies, garage-rock force, and post-punk intensity. The trio features guitarist and vocalist Terry Banks, bassist Hunter Bennett, and drummer Danny Ingram. Banks and Bennett previously played in Julie Ocean, while Ingram has performed with Youth Brigade, Strange Boutique, and Swervedriver. Dot Dash’s releases include *Proto Retro* and *Madman in the Rain*, and their live sound draws on power pop, mod revival, and college rock while retaining a taut punk edge.
