Stand-Up Showcase
Stand-Up Showcase brings five comedians to the DC Improv for an evening of varied stand-up styles from performers connected to Washington, Maryland, Virginia, and beyond. The showcase is designed to introduce audiences to emerging talent on a celebrated comedy stage, with material ranging from observational humor and personal stories to cultural experiences and sharper, more intellectual comedy.
The lineup includes Anthony Oakes, Joey Duffield, Abe Gatling, Prince Arora, and Amber Hendrix. Anthony Oakes is a North Carolina native and District resident whose clean but edgy Southern and intellectual style has been featured in the Washington Blade. Joey Duffield, based in Washington, DC, combines observations with personal anecdotes. New York City native Abe Gatling has appeared on Comedy Central and at the New York Comedy Festival, in addition to performing nationwide. DC comedian Prince Arora draws on his Indian heritage and American life, including workplace culture shock, relationships, and the everyday experiences of an immigrant; he has performed throughout the local comedy scene and at universities, opened for Zakir Khan at Capital One Hall before an audience of 1,500, and was a finalist in the 2024 Comedy Kumite XL. Richmond-based comedian and producer Amber Hendrix contributes to Reductress and The Hard Times and has opened for Dave Attell, Emily Catalano, and Geoffrey Asmus.
