STRANGE BOUTIQUE
Strange Boutique returns to Washington, D.C.’s Black Cat for a hometown performance featuring music from its new album, *Let the Lonely Heart Sing*. The band’s ethereal, guitar-driven post-punk combines melody, textured guitars, gothic romanticism, and a touch of mystical atmosphere. DC veteran Gregg Hudson performs on drums, with Cemetery Sex and DJ Sara Vox also appearing.
Originally active in the Washington, D.C., club scene from 1987 through 1993, Strange Boutique became known for shows that drew punks, goths, misfits, scenesters, and dreamers. Reunion performances in 2004 and 2019, along with Monica Richards’ work in Faith and the Muse, helped sustain interest in the group. A later viral surge around the song “Drown” introduced the band’s expansive sound to a new generation.
The current core lineup consists of Monica Richards, bassist Steve Willett, and guitarist Dennis Kane. *Let the Lonely Heart Sing* continues the band’s atmospheric style with spectral guitar textures, chorus-soaked bass, and Richards’ distinctive voice. Its themes include lost time, longing, wonder, and enduring hope.
