Art, Bikes, and Beer
Phillips after 5: Art, Bikes, and Beer welcomes fall with an Oktoberfest-inspired evening that combines art, live music, cycling, and local beer. Guests can personalize bike tassels and bells, turn beer tops into playful accessories, sample beers from Right Proper Brewing Company, and explore cycling and brewing through talks, demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
The program includes a live set by Baltimore/DC folk and Americana trio Wicked Sycamore, a DJ set by Lady Changa, and a Spotlight Talk with a Phillips educator. Visitors can also learn about Washington’s bike routes from DC Cycling Concierge, test their knowledge in a membership-giveaway trivia challenge, hear about beer styles and the local brewing scene from Odd Provisions, and practice basic bicycle maintenance with Conte’s Bike Shop.

Music: Wicked Sycamore performs live, followed by or alongside a DJ set from Lady Changa. Wicked Sycamore is an all-female trio whose contemporary folk and Americana blend draws on roots music, bluegrass, pop, funk, and jazz, with vocal harmonies, varied instrumental arrangements, lyrical storytelling, and shifts between lighthearted and introspective songs. Lady Changa, the stage name of DC-based Mexican-American DJ Tania Del Moral, plays music influenced by Veracruz, Mexico City, Washington, and the American South, including cumbia, salsa, electronic music, and Spanish-language punk and rock.
Cycling Program: Jeff Miller, founder and principal guide of DC Cycling Concierge, presents recommendations for exploring Washington, DC, by bicycle, including the city’s best bike paths. A related trivia question at the Membership Giveaway table gives one participant who answers correctly the chance to win a gift certificate for a DC Cycling Concierge tour. Conte’s Bike Shop leads a practical workshop covering essential bicycle maintenance and repair skills.
Beer Program: Jon Mitchell of Odd Provisions discusses beer styles, the history of brewing in Washington, DC, and the area’s current local brewery scene. He also explains how Odd Provisions chooses the beers for its shop. Beer samples from Right Proper Brewing Company are available during the event.

Speakers and Partners: Jeff Miller leads DC Cycling Concierge, a company specializing in private, VIP, and corporate tours of Washington and the surrounding region, including the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal trails. Jon Mitchell has more than 15 years of experience across the Washington beer industry, including homebrewing, retail beer programs, and brewery taproom management. Odd Provisions is a Columbia Heights market featuring groceries, regional produce, prepared foods, natural wine, craft beer, and locally made gifts.
