Summer Teen Letterpress Intensive
This 4-day in-studio workshop is designed exclusively for teens aged 13 to 18, offering a deep dive into the art of letterpress printmaking. Participants will work with historical presses—both cylinder and platen types—set metal and wood type, mix ink, and carve their own small image designs. The program also covers simple book forms and explores how type, image, and content combine for creative expression. By the end, each student will leave with several prints and a fundamental understanding of how to operate equipment in a community print studio, plus information on how to become certified for independent use.
When: Monday–Thursday, June 22–25, 2026, daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Tickets: Two pricing tiers are available. Prince George's County residents or students enrolled in a county school pay $25.00 (proof of residency or enrollment required after registration). General registration for non-county participants is $400.00.
Registration: Registration is extended through June 19, 2026. Note that this class is currently at capacity; a waitlist is available by emailing your name and the class name.
Schedule: Each day builds on the previous one; attendees must commit to the full four-day workshop.
Ages: 13–18 years only.
Venue: Printmaking Studio.
Materials: All necessary materials (paper, cardstock, ink, etc.) are included. Participants are encouraged to bring an apron or clothes that can get inky, optional paper or prints to upcycle, and a notepad/sketchbook. Safety recommendations: short sleeves, close-toed shoes, and hair tied back.
Note: Students are responsible for providing their own lunch; additional details will be given at registration. A Community Investment Grant from the Prince George's County Office of the County Executive funds the county-resident discount. Class capacity is limited to ensure individual attention.
