Exhibit: norberto gómez jr - prayer flags & clown kōans

This exhibition by DC-based artist, writer, and publisher reishin norberto gómez jr brings together two thematic series—prayer flags and clown kōans—to explore the intersections of death, spirituality, technology, and popular culture. The title phrase “what is the sound of the tears of a clown?” hints at the contemplative, playful, and unsettling tone of the work. gómez jr’s practice spans painting, writing, publishing, and curating, and they are the co-founder of Sybil Press. Their recent scholarly and creative work engages with horror, media studies, and aesthetics, and their paintings have appeared in New American Paintings. The exhibition runs for four weeks, with an opening reception featuring live music.

When: Saturday, August 1, 2026 through Friday, August 28, 2026. The opening reception takes place on Saturday, August 1 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.

Note: The artist earned a BFA from Texas A&M University – Kingsville, an MFA from the University of Houston, and a PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University. They are currently studying Eastern Classics at St. John’s College.
