Rose Jaffe: Seed and Stone
Rose Jaffe's *Seed and Stone* is the artist's newest body of work, created during a residency at La Ceiba Gráfica in Veracruz, Mexico, in March 2025. The exhibition explores material, surface, and process through intaglio and monotype printmaking techniques. Jaffe worked with repurposed Tetra Pak—a common packaging material in Mexico—to create richly textured prints, combining it with layered monoprinting and materials sourced from the local mercado such as lace, netting, and found fibers. Each piece is printed on handmade paper produced in small batches at La Ceiba from cotton, denim, kozo, and other fibers. Working with a limited, earthy palette of browns, greens, blacks, and reds, Jaffe began with familiar imagery and gradually embraced abstraction to create dynamic studies of shape, form and texture. The exhibition also features sculptures that leave the wall, allowing figures to overlap, intertwine, and flow in the space. These figures embody the relationships we hold with ourselves and each other, centering mutual support and collective care.
