Claudio Rubio, a celebrated Chilean saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator, brings his quintet to Blues Alley as part of the venue’s Chilean Jazz Series. Rubio graduated Summa Cum Laude from William Paterson University’s Jazz Studies Program, studying with acclaimed artists like Rich Perry, Jim McNeely, and Dave Liebman. He has performed and recorded internationally with leading musicians such as Cristián Gálvez, Camila Meza, Nicolás Vera, Francesca Ancarola, Ensamble Quintessence, and Antonio Monasterio Ensamble, appearing in Japan, Colombia, Canada, England, Spain, Denmark, and Switzerland. As a bandleader, Rubio has released four albums: Tristano! (2011), Hijo (2017), Música Para Ascensores (2019), and Ella Lleva El Fuego (2025). Hijo received a Pulsar Award nomination, and Ella Lleva El Fuego won the Pulsar Award for Best Jazz Album, underscoring his distinctive artistic voice that integrates jazz tradition, contemporary composition, and improvisation. This performance features his quintet, offering an evening of compelling original work and inventive jazz.
