Pre-Professional Ballet Classes

Pre-Professional Ballet Classes at Essence Studios are part of Riverworks Art Center’s Fall 2026 program in Poolesville. The classes welcome students of every age and experience level, from young dancers and teenagers developing strength and flexibility to adults interested in movement and wellness and aspiring professional dancers.

Students may apply with or without previous dance training. Those who are new to ballet or are not currently enrolled must first complete a placement class. Instructors use that assessment to determine the appropriate level, considering motor skills, the curriculum, American Ballet Theatre level requirements, the student’s aptitude, age, and the social-development level of their peers. The studio states that it accepts students without discrimination based on race, gender, age, color, national origin, or sexual orientation.

When: August 31–December 18, 2026

Schedule: The Fall 2026 semester begins during the week of August 31–September 5. The event page lists recurring class dates through the semester, generally as all-day entries rather than individual class times. Youth classes end on December 18, while adult classes end on December 15.

Class Calendar Notes: The studio is closed September 19 for Poolesville Day; November 26–27 for Thanksgiving and fall break; December 3 for a production rehearsal; December 7, when youth classes are canceled; and December 19 through January 3 for winter break. The studio is scheduled to remain open October 31 and November 28, with November 28 also designated for an in-studio dress rehearsal.

Ages and Experience: Students of all ages and experience levels are welcome. New or currently unenrolled ballet students must take a preliminary placement class before being assigned a level.

Placement: Level assignments are based on an evaluation of fine and gross motor skills, the applicable curriculum and American Ballet Theatre requirements, natural ability, age, peer development, and the needs of the class.
