Community Days: Blacklisted

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, the Capital Jewish Museum will host Community Days: Blacklisted, a community day when admission to the entire museum, including the special exhibition Blacklisted: An American Story, is free. The program is built around an exhibition that explores the Hollywood blacklist and the federal government’s loyalty investigations during the Red Scare, a period that upended thousands of lives. Through personal stories, rare artifacts, film clips, costumes, and photography, the exhibition examines how fear, politics, and identity intersected and raises questions about who gets to define what it means to be a patriotic American. The exhibition, on loan from Jewish Museum Milwaukee, is expanded locally to include the Red Scare’s impact on federal employees in the nation’s capital.
