Featuring: Stephen Philip Harvey Octet

The Stephen Philip Harvey Octet celebrates a new recording release with a special performance at Blues Alley. The evening features original compositions by award-winning saxophonist and composer Stephen Philip Harvey, including the suite “Mythos,” commissioned by Chamber Music America as part of the 2025 New Jazz Works. Drawing on mythology from the African continent, the African diaspora, and evolving American folktales, the octet’s music blends expressive improvisation with cinematic, narrative-driven writing. This performance coincides with the ensemble’s recent studio output and follows Harvey’s acclaimed trio album *Golden Hour* (2026) and the upcoming octet album *The Pen is Mightier* (February 2027). Harvey leads a mid-sized ensemble known for its dynamic interplay and bold storytelling.
