Introduction to Screenprinting on Fabric
Introduction to Screenprinting on Fabric is an in-studio, hands-on workshop led by artist and illustrator Tia Wilson. Designed for beginners, the class introduces screenprinting specifically for fabric and explores both practical and artistic uses for printed textiles. Participants will prepare artwork, learn several printing approaches, practice heat-setting images, and discuss how to care for printed fabric.
The workshop also covers how to source printing equipment and materials. Students will receive guidance on creating or selecting images after registering and will print on fabric items such as tea towels, T-shirts, or other flat textiles.

Instructor: Tia Wilson, an artist, illustrator, and comic maker from Germantown, Maryland. Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in illustration from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2024 and recently completed a studio internship at Pyramid. Their work examines culture, experience, and identity through painting, installation, printmaking, and comics, and has been exhibited around the DMV and in Rochester, New York.
Materials included: The registration fee contains a $36 materials fee covering consumable supplies such as emulsion, ink, tape, newsprint, paper for test prints, and access to a silkscreen for use during class.
What to bring: Students should bring clean, ironed fabric, such as tea towels or T-shirts, along with images to work from. Additional image guidance is provided during registration. An apron and notebook or sketchbook are optional, and students may instead wear clothing suitable for getting ink on it.
Additional equipment: New 20-by-24-inch silkscreens are available for purchase for $30 for students who want to continue printing after the workshop. They should contact the center to reserve one.
