Substrate Pres. Dj Stingray 313

Substrate returns for its seventh edition with a performance by Detroit electro innovator DJ Stingray 313 at Transmission. Known for his masked, high-energy, cyborg-inspired DJ sets, Stingray has built an international reputation through decades of work connected to electro, techno, and influential Detroit collectives.

His musical output explores modern science, genetics, medicine, technology, and their impact on humanity. His early recordings date to 1987, when he collaborated with Lou Robinson of Scan 7 as Nasa. He later released music as Urban Tribe through Carl Craig’s Planet E Communications and helped expand the project with collaborators including Carl Craig, Anthony “Shake” Shakir, and Moodymann.

Stingray is also closely associated with Drexciya members James Stinson and Gerald Donald. Initially credited as Mystic Tribe A.I. on a release connected to Stinson’s Other People Place project, he eventually became Drexciya’s touring DJ. His subsequent appearances have included Tresor Berlin, Glastonbury, Dekmantel, Movement Festival in Detroit, Making Time, Sonar, Berghain, Dimensions Festival, and Berlin Atonal.
