Magoo

Magoo is a Denver-based progressive bluegrass quartet bringing traditional roots into conversation with modern experimentation. Their live sound is built on intricate arrangements, close three-part harmonies, energetic instrumental passages, and extended improvisation.

The group’s debut album, *What a Life*, was released in February 2026. The record balances heartfelt songwriting with expansive instrumental work, featuring bluegrass legend Sam Bush on fiddle and harmony vocals and mastering by two-time GRAMMY Award winner David Glasser. Magoo’s recent accomplishments include wins at the UllrGrass Band Competition and Clash of the Strings, second place at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, and a sold-out headlining performance at Denver’s Bluebird Theater.

Lineup: Dobroist Dylan Flynn, winner of the 2024 RockyGrass Dobro Competition; guitarist Erik Hill, a RockyGrass Flatpicking Contest runner-up; mandolinist Courtlyn Bills; and bassist Denton Turner. Flynn contributes melodic warmth, Hill supplies the band’s driving rhythmic foundation, Bills delivers inventive arrangements and fiery solos, and Turner anchors the group with groove and subtle dynamics.

Background: Magoo has appeared at Winter WonderGrass, Grand Lake Folk Festival, RapidGrass, and Huck Finn Jubilee. The band’s performances and recordings connect the heart of traditional bluegrass with the adventurous sound of a newer progressive generation.
