Elizabeth Casqueiro’s solo exhibition _Between Worlds_ at the IDB Staff Association Art Gallery presents 14 works that explore the emotional, symbolic, and cultural resonance of cities and buildings as vessels of human experience. Casqueiro, who blends her architectural background and Portuguese heritage with vivid childhood memories, creates immersive pieces that occupy a space between painting and installation. The exhibition features acrylic paintings on canvas as well as double-sided works on cotton fabric created using thread, ink, and collage techniques; these fabric pieces are suspended from the ceiling, inviting viewers to move around and between them, engaging the artwork from multiple perspectives. The work “Dulles Airport, Side A,” made with fabric paint, pen and ink collage, cotton thread, and ink on loose cotton duck cloth (48 x 72 inches), is among the pieces on view. Casqueiro notes that “cities and buildings are extraordinary containers of human narrative and meaning… They symbolize societal values, evoke emotions, and reflect who we are.” Elizabeth Casqueiro has exhibited in the United States and Europe, teaches at Georgetown University, and her work is held in notable collections including the World Bank Group.
