Make+Take: DIY Suminagashi Marbling
Make+Take: DIY Suminagashi Marbling introduces participants to suminagashi, the centuries-old Japanese-inspired technique of creating patterns by floating ink on water. Attendees will learn how to manipulate the ink with breath and brushes, then place paper on the water to capture swirling, organic designs. The workshop is designed for makers of all kinds, particularly beginners exploring creative practices for the first time.
Papermaker and artist David Joo will lead the session. His work investigates the tactile qualities of paper and its uses in art and culture, including designs and sculptural paper pieces presented in galleries, resorts, and online spaces.
