Barbara Kingsolver — Partita — at Lisner
Barbara Kingsolver presents *Partita*, a novel about Livia Cable, who has settled into marriage and a modest life in the farm country where she grew up. Her routine is shaken by a call from a former lover, bringing back memories of the woman she once was: Livia Bohusz, a gifted music conservatory student separated from her family and devoted to the piano.
Moving between Livia’s present life and her past, the story follows her struggle over whether to reunite with the man who once damaged her faith in love and altered the course of her life. The novel explores childhood loss, abandonment, ambition, class divisions, dangerous attachment, and the enduring power of music and art.
Kingsolver is the author of ten bestselling works of fiction, including *Unsheltered*, *The Bean Trees*, and *The Poisonwood Bible*. Her other work includes poetry, essays, creative nonfiction, and the children’s book *Coyote’s Wild Home*, as well as the family collaboration *Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life*. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, she has received the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for *Demon Copperhead*, the National Humanities Medal, and the National Book Foundation’s Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters.
