JOHN HIATT

John Hiatt performs at the Birchmere with Rachel Ann Morgan and Jonathan Sloane. A major American singer-songwriter for more than four decades, Hiatt is known for a catalog spanning 26 solo albums, a collaboration with Little Village, and songs recorded by artists including Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Bob Dylan, and Iggy Pop. His latest studio album mentioned on the page is *Leftover Feelings*, recorded with Dobro player Jerry Douglas at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio B.

Morgan and Sloane open or accompany the evening with an intimate acoustic roots set. Morgan brings a background in professional musical theater and a style that moves between soul, rock, and Americana; she has performed with artists including Warren Haynes, Susan Tedeschi, Marcus King, and Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, and sings with the Ron Holloway Band. Sloane is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and session musician whose blues, Americana, soul, funk, and rock influences have led to work with artists such as Amy Helm, Billy Strings, Butch Trucks, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, Phil Lesh, Samantha Fish, and Sonny Landreth. Together, they shape their wide-ranging musical backgrounds into an acoustic performance centered on soulful vocals, expressive guitar work, and American roots songwriting.
