Nicholas Payton - Recording "A Supreme Blue" Release
Nicholas Payton brings *A Supreme Blue* to Blues Alley for a two-night recording-release engagement honoring the centennials of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. The project revisits the spirit of Davis’s *Kind of Blue* and Coltrane’s *A Love Supreme*, combining tribute with Payton’s own modern interpretation.
Payton serves as producer, trumpeter, keyboardist, and bandleader. His music draws on bebop, swing, the Great American Songbook, New Orleans second-line and Mardi Gras Indian traditions, instrumental soul, rhythm and blues, hip-hop, and Afro-descended musical traditions from Central America and the Caribbean. A New Orleans musical heir and acclaimed virtuoso, Payton has led ensembles ranging from solo performances to a 21-piece big band and has composed works including *The Black American Symphony*. His major-label debut as a leader was *From This Moment* on Verve.
