The Suitcase Junket

The Suitcase Junket is the musical project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matt Lorenz. His performances blend the early blues and rock ’n’ roll traditions with jazz-inspired improvisation, Tom Waits’ influence, and carefully crafted songwriting. Lorenz is known for an imaginative, highly distinctive sound and a weathered, howl-marked voice that has been compared to Hound Dog Taylor and Tuvan throat singing.

His dark folk is both poetic and richly textured. The Suitcase Junket’s seventh album, *To Go On*, was created after the death of Lorenz’s sister, singer-songwriter Kate Lorenz. The album is presented as a tender, deeply moving musical conversation with someone who has died, exploring grief, love, memory, and connection.
