Woody Sez
Woody Sez is a live theatrical musical celebrating the life, music, and activism of folk legend Woody Guthrie, running at Dupont Underground from October 8 through October 25, 2026. The production, described as an international smash hit, brings Guthrie’s story to the stage with foot-stomping energy, blending biography with performances of his most beloved songs. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has called Guthrie “the original folk hero,” and this show honors that legacy by exploring how he transformed the folk ballad into a vehicle for social protest and observation. Featuring classics such as “Bound For Glory,” “Pastures of Plenty,” “The Ballad of Tom Joad,” “Deportees,” and “This Land Is Your Land,” Woody Sez portrays Guthrie as America’s greatest ballad maker, a rambling troubadour whose songs of defiance, hope, and resilience continue to inspire.
The production stars David M. Lutken, a Helen Hayes Award winner for his portrayal of Guthrie, returning to Washington for this tour-de-force musical. The show is presented by Voices Festival Productions and Woodrow Theatricals, and tickets are offered on a pay-what-you-choose basis. The venue is Dupont Underground, located at 19 Dupont Circle Northwest in Washington, DC, and the performance schedule features multiple showtimes that vary by date, with the run opening Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 PM and closing Sunday, October 25 at 5:00 PM. Doors open 30 minutes before each performance, the run time is approximately two hours, and there is an intermission.
