Juan Megna
Juan Megna leads his contemporary jazz ensemble in a performance rooted in improvisation and the rhythmic traditions of Argentina and Brazil. The Juan Megna Group draws on chacarera, milonga, candombe, and Afro-Brazilian music, reflecting Megna’s work as an Argentine percussionist, drummer, composer, and bandleader.
Megna spent more than a decade performing and collaborating in São Paulo with musicians including Rubinho Antunes, Vinicius Dorin, Jarbas Barbosa, Bruno Mangueira, and Felipe Silveira. Since relocating to the Washington, D.C., area in 2017, he has developed an active career as a performer and composer. His 2024 debut album as a bandleader, *Mariwô*, features original compositions inspired by Candomblé traditions as well as Argentine musical forms. The album has earned international recognition for its sophisticated blend of jazz improvisation, Argentine music, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.
