The UMD Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Michael Votta, Jr., opens its 2026–2027 season with a concert of works by American composers. The program features Robert Kurka’s Suite from *The Good Soldier Schweik*, an anti-war satire that fuses Czech folk and dance music with American folk, jazz, and marches, originally written for just 16 instruments. Also on the program is Michael Daugherty’s *Fifteen: Symphonic Fantasy on the Art of Andy Warhol*, a musical “pictures at an exhibition” that translates Warhol’s pop art imagery—including his portraits of Beethoven and *The Last Supper*—into a vivid symphonic tapestry of bright colors and repetition. The concert takes place in the Dekelboum Concert Hall at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.
