UMD Symphony Orchestra with Zlatomir Fung, cello

The UMD Symphony Orchestra joins acclaimed cellist Zlatomir Fung for a program centered on Edward Elgar’s deeply expressive Cello Concerto. David Neely conducts the orchestra, while Fung brings the technical brilliance and musical sensitivity that earned him first prize in the cello division of the International Tchaikovsky Competition.

The concert also features Stravinsky’s vivid *The Firebird Suite*, a work rooted in Russian folklore about a prince aided by the magical Firebird in his battle against an ogre-like force of evil. The program opens with Verdi’s *Overture to La forza del destino* and runs approximately two hours.
