Considering the Lino Block: Linocut Printmaking with Bill Fick
Considering the Lino Block is an immersive, hands-on linocut workshop led by printmaker and Duke University Art Professor Bill Fick. Participants will learn how to turn ideas into bold graphic prints, with techniques applicable to custom posters, fine-art prints, and hand-printed cards.
The workshop covers the linocut process from concept through finished print. Instruction includes the history of linocut, designing high-contrast images in reverse, safe and effective carving, creating textures and fine lines, preparing and applying ink, and producing clean prints by both hand burnishing and professional printing press. The class is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced artists seeking to develop their technique.
