Brich dem Hungrigen dein Brot, BWV 39

This Washington Bach Consort program pairs two Baroque organ preludes with Bach’s cantata *Brich dem Hungrigen dein Brot*, BWV 39, presented as part of the Noontime Cantata Series. The same program is offered on two consecutive days at two different downtown Washington churches, both beginning at 12:10 pm. The cantata, whose title translates as “Break your bread for the hungry,” is anchored by an organ prelude set that features two works by Dieterich Buxtehude. The concert is free and open to the public, with general admission seating and voluntary donations.

When: Monday, October 12, 2026, and Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 12:10 pm on both dates.

Venue: October 12 performance takes place at St. Mark’s Capitol Hill (Capitol Cantata Series); October 13 performance takes place at Church of the Epiphany (Downtown Cantata Series).

Program: Organ prelude: Praeludium in G minor, BuxWV 149, by Dieterich Buxtehude (1637–1707); Toccata in D minor, BuxWV 155, also by Buxtehude; followed by Bach’s cantata *Brich dem Hungrigen dein Brot*, BWV 39.
