Faculty Dance Concert

The Faculty Dance Concert returns to The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center with an evening of contemporary dance that mixes freshly commissioned choreography with restaged works of historical significance. Presented by the UMD School of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies, the program spans multiple artistic voices and celebrates both new creation and dance legacy.

The concert features a suite from principal lecturer Alvin Mayes that includes a restaging of Erika Thimey’s poignant liturgical work *Pieta*, paired with a new companion piece choreographed by Mayes himself. Professor Adriane Fang contributes a restaging of *Democracy*, a celebrated work from Doug Varone and Dancers, presented in honor of the company’s 40th anniversary. The remainder of the program showcases new works by faculty members Maura Keefe and Kendra Portier, as well as artist-in-residence Ama Law ’19.

When: Friday, December 4 through Sunday, December 6, 2026, with four performances total.

Showtimes: Friday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm; Sunday, Dec. 6 at 2:00 pm.

Tickets: Regular admission is $30 plus a $5 booking fee. Students and youth tickets are $10.

Venue: Dance Theatre, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, University of Maryland.

Seating: Reserved seating is provided.

Lineup: Choreography and restaged works by Alvin Mayes, Adriane Fang, Maura Keefe, Kendra Portier, and Ama Law.

Accessibility: The venue offers wheelchair accessible seating, size-inclusive seating, large print programs, assisted listening devices, adult and child-friendly sensory packs, and quiet spaces upon request. ASL interpretation, audio description, and captioning are available for select events or by patron request made at least six weeks in advance.

Note: The concert is an evening of contemporary dance exploring artistry, innovation, and legacy within the UMD dance community.
