Gallery Experience: The Revolutionary Legacy of Isadora Duncan brings together live dance performance and guided discussion inside the Hirshhorn’s galleries. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition *Revolutions: Art from the Hirshhorn Collection, 1860–1960*, this program explores how modern dance pioneer Isadora Duncan’s radical ideas—rooted in artistic rebellion, political activism, and feminism—influenced visual art and redefined movement as a modern art form. A key focus is a series of nine ink drawings by Russian American artist Abraham Walkowitz, created around 1910, which capture Duncan’s kinetic force through swift, looping lines. Word Dance Theater, an innovative Washington, D.C.–based company led by artistic director Cynthia Word, performs and leads the discussion, drawing on Duncan’s technique and philosophy to push creative boundaries.
