Intro to Irish Music Workshop

The Intro to Irish Music Workshop welcomes musicians and singers of all experience levels for an afternoon exploring traditional Irish music. Participants can study fiddle, flute, tinwhistle, bodhrán, or voice with Washington Conservatory of Music Irish Music faculty, learn a traditional tune in an instrument- and level-specific breakout session, and connect with other players during a happy hour jam.

The workshop concludes at Glen Echo Park’s Irish Inn with a traditional music performance by the Irish Inn Mates. Students will be invited to join the performance, and friends and family are welcome to attend that performance free of charge.

When: October 17, 2026

Showtimes: 2:00–6:00 PM

Schedule: The welcome program runs from 2:00–3:00 PM in the Recital Room. Breakout sessions by level and instrument follow from 3:15–4:00 PM in the Recital Room. From 4:15–6:00 PM, participants move to the Irish Inn for a happy hour jam and traditional music performance.

Lineup: Washington Conservatory of Music Irish Music faculty Mitch Fanning on fiddle, Tina Eck on flute and tinwhistle, Jesse Winch on bodhrán, and Eileen Estes on voice. The Irish Inn Mates will present the concluding performance.

Activities: The program includes an informal presentation about WCM’s Irish Music program, tune-teaching breakout sessions, a happy hour jam session, and a traditional Irish music performance.

Ages and Experience: All levels are invited, from beginners through more experienced musicians and singers.

Tickets: $50. Advance registration is requested to reserve a spot.

Venue: Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, with activities in the Recital Room and at Glen Echo Park’s Irish Inn.
