32 2nd Ave, New York, NY

The Black Chariot Film Screening is a rare week-long theatrical engagement of Robert L. Goodwin's 1971 independent feature, recently restored by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. The film, long feared lost, tells the story of Tuck (played by Bernie Casey), a man drawn into a Black-Panther-like radical group and the consequences of a member's betrayal. Told through affecting flashbacks, the movie offers fascinating glimpses into early-1970s Black radical politics and Los Angeles urban landscapes, and marks the debut of actress Barbara O. Jones. The screening is presented in partnership with Anthology Film Archives and includes special introductions by curators and scholars.
