Kemuel Roig - Solo Piano - Recording Release - Cuban Jazz Series
Kemuel Roig presents *Both Sides Now*, an intimate solo-piano concert celebrating his recording release. The Cuban-American pianist and composer reinterprets familiar songs through improvisation, storytelling, and personal expression rather than fixed traditional arrangements. The program also features Roig’s original compositions and works by Cuban composers.
Drawing on classical training, Afro-Cuban heritage, and modern jazz, Roig creates a performance shaped by melody, harmony, silence, memory, and spontaneous invention. The repertoire includes music associated with Joni Mitchell, Paul McCartney, Armando Manzanero, Michel Legrand, Billie Holiday, Consuelo Velázquez, Agustín Lara, Jimmy Rowles, and others, along with compositions by Abelardo Valdés, Marcelino Guerra, and Gonzalo Roig.
Roig is a DownBeat Student Music Award recipient whose performances and recordings have appeared on Grammy Award-winning projects. He has worked with artists including Arturo Sandoval, Al Di Meola, Randy Brecker, Chris Potter, Ed Calle, and Brian Lynch. His artistry combines virtuosic technique, lyrical intimacy, Afro-Cuban rhythmic energy, and fearless improvisation.
